Last week, the University of Mostar conducted a pilot implementation of two modules from the Educational Toolkit developed within the international project Students’ Voice in the Parliament (SVP) at its Faculty of Law. The pilot activities included the modules “Structured Debates on Issues of Public Interest” and “Dialogue with Decision-Makers.”

Through practical activities, students developed their skills in argumentation, active listening, and constructive debate, while also learning how to formulate effective questions for dialogue with institutional representatives. The aim of the pilot implementation was to test the developed educational materials in practice and collect feedback to support their final refinement, ensuring their applicability and alignment with students’ needs.

Students from the Debate Club of the Faculty of Law at the University of Mostar participated in the activities under the coordination of Prof. Ivona Šego Marić, PhD.

The Faculty of Law at the University of Mostar plays an important role in promoting legal culture, democratic values, and the active participation of young people in social processes. Through educational and practical activities such as these, students are given the opportunity to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world challenges of democratic decision-making, develop critical thinking and the ability to express well-reasoned opinions, and understand the importance of dialogue between citizens and institutions.

About the Students’ Voice in the Parliament (SVP) project

The University of Mostar is a partner in the Students’ Voice in the Parliament (SVP) project, coordinated by the University of Montenegro. The project is implemented under the European Union’s Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) Programme and aims to strengthen young people's participation in democratic processes and public life.

The project connects students from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro with the parliaments of both countries, providing them with opportunities to express their views, propose youth-oriented policies, and actively participate in discussions on issues of public interest. Through project activities, students gain practical knowledge of parliamentary processes, European values, public policy development, and responsible citizenship, with particular emphasis on developing the competencies necessary for constructive dialogue and active participation in decision-making processes.

As part of the project, a Digital Platform for Democratic Participation will also be developed, with the University of Mostar responsible for its implementation. The platform will enable students to propose ideas, vote on initiatives, and participate in moderated discussions on various social issues, further encouraging their involvement in democratic processes and the development of policies affecting young people.

The pilot implementation of the educational modules represents an important step in developing practical tools to strengthen student participation, foster a culture of dialogue, and promote democratic engagement among young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
