On the initiative of the Maryland–Bosnia and Herzegovina Exchange Council (MBHEC), an online meeting was held officially launching a long-term cooperation between the U.S. state of Maryland and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the field of higher education.
The cooperation involves four public universities from Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the University of Mostar, as well as several universities from Maryland. The initiative brings together numerous educational institutions, diplomatic representatives, and government officials from both sides, aiming to enhance collaboration in education, scientific research, and creating opportunities for young people.
During the meeting, potentials and strategic priorities for joint work were presented, such as student and faculty exchanges, joint study programs, collaborative research, virtual classrooms, and summer programs.
Representing the University of Mostar, Dr. Inja Stojkić and Ana Šuman participated in the meeting. Dr. Stojkić, Head of the Office for International Cooperation, presented the strategic directions of the university’s international activities, study programs, and regional significance. She expressed the university’s readiness to establish concrete forms of cooperation with institutions from Maryland—primarily focusing on cooperation that would offer students more opportunities and enable an international dimension of education.
The next meeting is scheduled for June 11, 2025, when universities from Maryland will present their educational offerings and strategic goals regarding cooperation with higher education institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This initiative, which goes beyond formal protocol relations, is based on shared values and aims to create lasting links between educational institutions of the two countries, with a special emphasis on promoting international mobility, cooperation, and intercultural understanding.
