A memorandum of cooperation between 17 universities from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro, including the University of Mostar, was signed with the TPO Foundation under the auspices of the Embassy of the United Kingdom. The coordinator and memorandum signatory on behalf of the University of Mostar was Prof Davorka Topić Stipić, PhD.

Ambassador Matthew Field stressed the importance of the readiness of universities to work on the integration of gender equality into the higher education system so that the academic and wider community becomes a safe place for teachers and students.

"The University of Mostar is committed to issues of equality and the implementation of policies that promote equality agenda, but also concrete activities. The UNIGEM project will certainly help and give additional impetus to activities," said Topić Stipić.

Director of the TPO Foundation Prof Zilka Spahić Šiljak, PhD, stressed the importance of establishing mechanisms for preventing gender-based violence and fostering gender equality in universities and colleges. It should result in a change in the general and organizational culture in the academic community. "This is the first step we have taken with the support of the British Embassy, and now follows a large number of activities that we will carry out in cooperation with partner universities," said Spahić Šiljak.
