A lecture to students, teaching and non-teaching staff on the topic From an Idea to a Successful Startup, Lean Startup Tools and Skills was delivered by Michael Mizrahi, Head of Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Azrieli College of Engineering Jerusalem, during his working visit to SUM. Lecture participants heard how to solve problems in their startup company and create innovative solutions. During the lecture, Mizrahi spoke about the everyday things we use, which have emerged as a product of startup companies.
As part of the lecture, he presented two practical tools that help solve problems at home, at work, in startups and more. One of them is the TIPS theory, which is the theory of solving inventive problems. After defining the problem, all its factors are extracted, and it is considered how some of them can be divided, added, increased and merged to reach a final solution to the problem through the TIPS theory. One example he cited is a classroom that does not have enough classic desks and chairs for all students and teachers. The problem is how to accommodate all students in the classroom to have a table and chair in a confined space. Factors are students, desk, chair, teacher, board, windows, speaker/teacher space. The solution is to connect a chair and a table, i.e. chairs that have a table attached to the armrest.
Also, Mizrahi presented elements of the Canvas business model. It is a model that includes crucial partners, activities, customer relationships, product segmentation for a particular product, sources, channels to consumers, product/solution value, cost list. Every entrepreneur should combine these two theories/methods in their innovation tool.
