New international partner of SUM: Two agreements signed with Beijing International Studies University

The University of Mostar signed two agreements with the Beijing International Studies University - BISU and gained a new international partner in the People's Republic of China.

The Rector of the University of Mostar, Prof Zoran Tomić, PhD, and SUM Management, hosted the delegation from Beijing International Studies University. The BISU delegation consisted of the President of Beijing International Studies University, Jinbiao JI; the Director of the Organization and Personnel Department of Beijing International Studies University, Zhen LI; the Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office of Beijing International Studies University, Gang YU; Dean of School of European Studies of Beijing International Studies University, Jiang LU;  Director of Academic Administration Department of Beijing International Studies University, Xin QU; and economic adviser of the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Gai Guoqiang.

By signing the Agreement, partners established cooperation on activities such as institutional exchange of teachers, technical and administrative staff, and students, development of new study programs, joint research, cultural programs and conferences, and other activities of common interest. Also, on this occasion, partners signed the Agreement on the joint formation of a scientific research laboratory at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Mostar. The basis of laboratory work is the research of the Croatian and Chinese languages and promoting education in these languages, including joint online lectures, research, projects, and summer school.

Beijing International Studies University (BISU) is a public research university headquartered in Beijing, founded in 1964. It was established as part of a national initiative to promote tertiary foreign language education and has developed into a significant foreign language and cultural studies university in China. BISU consists of 17 faculties and currently has more than 10,700 students. It is important to note that the Croatian language is taught as an elective subject at the Faculty of European Studies of Beijing International Studies University.

This Agreement undoubtedly strengthens the partnership and, above all, friendly relations between the University of Mostar and the People's Republic of China, but also create new opportunities for cooperation in the education field.
