The programme cycle of the lifelong learning course “Easy to Read” was successfully concluded with a formal certificate award ceremony held in the SUMIT building at the Rodoč Campus. The programme was designed to meet the needs of contemporary society. It promotes an interdisciplinary approach to supporting persons with disabilities and emphasises the importance of clear and understandable communication as a prerequisite for social inclusion and equal participation in society. The “Easy to Read” programme forms part of the activities of the ACTIVE project, jointly implemented by Caritas Bosne i Hercegovine, Socijalno-edukativni centar Banja Luka, and Udruga Vedri osmijeh.

“Easy to Read is not merely a method – it is a value, an attitude, and a responsibility. You are now the bearers of knowledge that can reduce barriers, empower individuals, and open doors to understanding where they were previously closed. I wish you every success in your further learning and life. Thank you for being part of our story,” emphasised Prof. Davorka Topić Stipić, PhD, Head of the Centre for Lifelong Learning and the SUM Academy.

Participants acquired knowledge and practical competences for adapting content in line with European Easy to Read standards, with particular emphasis on reviewing and validating materials in collaboration with persons with intellectual disabilities.

Tatjana Grujo, speaking on behalf of Caritas Bosne i Hercegovine, highlighted the broader social significance of accessible communication: “Accessible information is not merely a technical matter of adapting text – it is about dignity, equality, and real opportunities for every one of us. It determines the extent to which someone can participate, understand, and make decisions about their own life. In your future work, it is essential that you consistently apply the principles of clear and responsible communication, as this raises professional standards and contributes to building a society in which no one is excluded.”

“Such educational initiatives are extremely valuable because they remind us that communication is not a privilege, but a right for everyone. It is not only about acquiring knowledge, but also about changing perspective. Easier and higher-quality communication is needed by all of us, not only certain groups. Through openness and willingness to learn, we enrich ourselves both professionally and personally. The question is whether we are ready to recognise how much such experiences can enhance us,” concluded Prof. Zdenko Klepić, PhD, Assistant Rector for Business and Human Resources at the University of Mostar.

This year’s programme cycle was successfully completed by 74 participants, confirming the interest in and need for this form of lifelong learning.
