The representative of twelve national minorities in the Croatian Parliament, Veljko Kajtazi delivered the lecture on the topic „The Position of Romani people and their Language in the Republic of Croatia” at Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Mostar.

The Rector of the University of Mostar, Prof Zoran Tomić, PhD pointed out that he discussed with representative Kajtazi about improving relations between SUM and the minorities that Kajtazi represents in the Parliament.

“We put special emphasis on the national minority Roma. We expressed the wish and need to give scholarships to a number of Roma students and develop the cooperation with Roma national minority in all totalities that exists within the minority. SUM wants to be a partner on the promotion of rights and development of identities of all minorities including the Roma” said Rector Tomić.

Veljko Kajtazi pointed out that he wants to introduce the most of the people to the position of Roma, their language, culture and tradition to the society because the Roma people know almost everything about the society they live in.

“The local self-government units in the Republic of Croatia do not have action plans for Roma people. There is a national strategy at the state level but in these plans, there are no funds for them, so it is not possible to achieve action plans” said Kajtazi.

Kajtazi is a member of the Committee on Human and National Minority Rights, Education, Science and Culture Committee and Committee on Information, Computerisation and the Media. He was the first president of The Roma Union in the Republic of Croatia “KALI SARA” established in 2007.
